From the Land of Weird-Looking Fruits

Like what do fruits and Koolred have in common right? We don't know we just thought they (the fruits) looked weird enough to be displayed. These fruits are quite the norm in certain parts of the world like Southeast Asia. In other parts of the world, they could be mistaken for a new toy or a door knob . But what do they taste like?

To be honest, the snake fruit (below) looks reptilian(hence the name!). I mean take a good look at its scaly leathery skin. Some people enjoy its taste (mostly sweet with a tinge of sour), while others feel the flesh lacks juiciness and leaves your mouth feeling dry.

Better known as mata kucing, this fruit makes a delicious drink. Ok so it's not so weird looking but we just really like this photo.

Rambutans are totally sweeeeeet on the inside. Beware of the inedible seed though.

Durians have a reputation for smelling not-so-nice. Ok, they stink. But durian lovers will tell you the juicy custard-like flesh on the inside is to die for.

Mangosteen is really the durian’s ‘prettier sister’. It’s not as smelly and the juicy flesh inside is just yummy.

Tell us your favourites.

Our rating:
Mangosteen – 1
Rambutan – 2
Mata kucing-3
Snake fruit – 4
Durian – last as always

PS: Durian lovers don’t flame me.

I know snake fruit! The fruits grow in one bunch just like palm fruits. The skin is spiky, normally I rub it with newspaper to remove the before peeling it. It taste nice me. Should try!

Snake fruit is such an apt name...the skin is really something different from other fruits
